artist statement

My work is a diary of the paint over time as it moves from my emotional responses to place in marks, brushstrokes and layers to tell its own story. While the emerging work still references my being and my recent obsession with ponds and natural waterways, the painting allows me to enjoy the visceral qualities of paint as it breathes, pushes and marks time in playing out it’s narrative.

Hegel said that ‘One sees in painting that which is active in what drives us’ For me, this is a kind of co-existence of paint and the experience of place.
